A 32-year-old painter and decorator has appeared before magistrates at Skegness charged with stealing jewellery worth almost £42,000 from a couple he was working for.

Robert Branney, of Birch Grove, Alford, is charged with burglary of the elderly couple’s dwelling house at Chauntry Road, Alford, between April 22 and May 24 and stealing the jewellery.

No plea was entered and there was no application for bail from Branney’s solicitor, Ms Andrea Wilkes.

Yesterday (Tuesday) Branney was remanded in custody to Lincoln Crown Court for trial.

His first appearance will be on June 10 for a preliminary hearing.
