THE owner of a rental property in Winthorpe has been found guilty of failing to comply with an Improvement Notice following an investigation by East Lindsey District Council.

Despite formal requests to undertake improvement work to his property at 12 Roberts Grove, Winthorpe, Emmanuel Robert Nelson, who lives in Winthorpe, failed to fix exposed electrics, leaving tenants, including young children, at risk.

The council carried out Emergency Remedial Action at the address to make the electrics safe. The cost of the work, will be charged back to the owner.

Appearing at Skegness Magistrates’ Court, Nelson was found guilty of the offence. He was fined £600 and ordered to pay £1,000 costs.

Portfolio Holder for Housing at ELDC, Coun William Gray, said: “It is totally unacceptable for landlords to disregard the safety of their tenants in such a way. Whilst most landlords maintain their properties to a good standard, we will pursue those who don’t.”
