Chapel councillor charged with child sex offences

A Chapel St Leonards district councillor has been charged with 22 child sex offences.

The Metropolitan Police, on August 6, charged Phillip Steven Leivers, 75, with eight counts of rape, six counts of gross indecency with a child and eight counts of inciting a child to commit an act of gross indecency.

The BBC has reported that the alleged offences occured between 1974 and 1982 and involved one female victim.

He has been bailed to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on October 14.

East Lindsey District Council has confirmed Coun Leivers has resigned from his post.
