Encouraging signs at Spilsby Market, with traders inquiring about running extra stalls, have sparked speculation it could be extended into the adjacent Buttercross Car Park.

Spilsby Town Council’s councillor for the market Coun Winston Baugh said he was pleased to see the Monday market becoming more vibrant again and hopes it will continue.

“It is not only good news for the market, but definitely good news for the town itself, he said.

“If this carries on, in the near future it is hoped, with the support of the public, the market will grow and grow and it will be extended back to the Buttercross Car Park.”

East Lindsey District Council, which manages Spilsby market among others in the district, recently created a new staffing position to manage the markets and improve their success.

The council has attempted to encourage more traders to run their stalls at the markets and also pledges to promote them to a wider audience.

ELDC’s portfolio holder for economic development, Coun Craig Leyland, said: “Although there is still a long way to go in our market improvement programme I’m pleased there are already signs that we are heading in the right direction.

“We are determined to see our markets thrive because we know how important they are to the traders, local community and our wider economy.

“I’d encourage everyone to support their local markets,” he added.
