The plight of a terminally ill friend inspired a teenager to shave her head for charity.

Claire Danskin had her locks lopped off at the Buzz Bar, Ingoldmells, where dad Craig is manager on Saturday.

Braving the clippers has raised £1,785 for Cancer Research UK and Claire donated her shorn tresses to the Little Princess Trust which uses hair to make wigs for children with cancer. Claire, 16, learnt that a friend had cancer earlier this year and decided to do something to show her support. She recently completed her GCSEs at Skegness Academy and will be returning for the school prom this week sporting a ‘skinhead.’

She said: “It felt good knowing I had done something to make people proud.

“I recently met a a girl with three brain tumours who was wearing a wig and scared to take it off. I am alright, at least I know my hair will grow back.

“There have been quite a few comments and people staring at me, but I’m not embarassed.

“I was panicking before my hair was shaved off, but I thought I can’t back out now.”
