A Skegness Community Church has kindly donated a cheque to a local family support charity made possible through the proceeds of the Meeting Point Charity Shop it runs at the County Hotel in Skegness.
The donation of £100 was presented to Home Start East Lindsey last Thursday. It was raised through the Skegness Community Church of the Nazarene’s continuing commitment to local charities since opening its Meeting Point charity shop in 2011.
Reverend Ian Banks said: “We have supported many local charities since the shop opened, with total donations now exceeding £3,600. This latest donation is yet another example of our dedication to working in and with the local community.
“Not only has the Meeting Point charity shop enabled the donations, but it offers the opportunity to relax over a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit for just 50 pence.
“We are grateful for the volunteers who assist with running the shop, for the generous donations of items to sell, and for the active co-operation of the County Hotel.”
Home-Start East Lindsey have been working with vulnerable Skegness families with young children for over ten years. Last year it helped over 80 local families with over 150 children through its volunteer led home-visiting support and family groups.
The local charity trains volunteers who have been parents themselves to give support and advice to parents of young children who are struggling to cope for whatever reason - this could be due to an illness or disability in the family, loss of a parent or child, isolation or finding parenting a struggle.
Maureen McDonald, Trustee of Home-Start East Lindsey, said: “We are very grateful for this donation. Support such as this shows an understanding of the difficulties faced by many families with young children and helps us ensure we have volunteers on their door steps to give them the support they need.
“So a big thank you to all those who have contributed by shopping at The Meeting Point charity shop.”
The Meeting Point Charity Shop is presently operating two mornings a week - from 9am until 1 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
