ENQUIRIES made to Skegness Town Council about matters relating to other authorities are wasting valuable officer time, the town clerk has claimed.
Steve Larner raised the issue of misdirected calls being made to him and his staff at a Skegness Town Council meeting on Wednesday.
He said: “I’ve been quite surprised by the number of district council enquiries this council receives.
“We receive approximately 50 calls a week that relate to the district council and that’s using valuable town council officer time trying to help these people get the council details.”
He believes East Lindsey District Council’s website does not contain clear guidance on how to contact the relevant department or suitable explanations of services it provides.
Councillors present at the meeting supported Mr Larner’s recommendation that ELDC is requested to make lines of communication more obvious to service users.
Coun Gary Ellis thought that a ‘one-stop shop’ system previously suggested could solve the current problems.
This would involve a switchboard directing callers to the relevant department, whether that be district, county or town council.
