A SKEGNESS cafe has proven it’s a cut above after it won one of the main categories at a glittering awards ceremony.
The Elior Cafe in the Tesco store off Richmond Drive won the customer care honour in the East Midlands Food awards last week.
It saw off competition from across the region - from Peterborough and Grantham in the west to Mablethorpe and Skegness in the east.
And the result was made all the more satisfying for the cafe, because the winners were chosen by a public vote that ran across all of East Midlands Newspapers’ titles - including the Standard.
Several of the cafe’s staff were in Peterborough last week for the award ceremony.
Speaking afterwards, Ethan Dewitt-Bukater, Catering Manager at the Elior Cafe, said: “It was absolutely exciting. It was great news and we were so thrilled to have won it.”
“It is a sign that our team delivers great service, day in and day out. The team thoroughly deserve this accolade as they work hard to please our customers.
“We are also really grateful to our customers for nominating us and voting for us,” he added.
Several other local businesses also tasted success in this year’s awards.
There were three regional winners who made it through to the final after winning the local leg of the competition in their respective categories.
These included the Cafe at Gibraltar Point for Best Tea Room/Cafe, San Rufos in Skegness for Best European Restaurant and the Anchor Chippie in Ingoldmells for Best Fish & Chips.
All of the regional and overall winners will receive plaques and trophies acknowledging their achievements.
