Plans for beach safety

ENHANCEMENTS to Chapel St Leonards Beach have been proposed to provide a safer environment for residents and holidaymakers.

Chapel St Leonards Parish Council, which leases the beach from the Crown Estates is considering applying for funding of up to £2,500 from its landlord, to carry out a range of health and safety improvements.

The council’s Beach Management Committee has already divided the beach into sections to make it easier to identify a particular area when discussing beach issues.

If successful in its application, the council will create signs on the beach corresponding with the various sections, so that the emergency services can be directed more precisely to call-outs as and when they occur.

Necessary repairs to safety railings near the pull-over and steps could also be carried out with the funding.

The suggestion will be considered by councillors during their next full council meeting on March 12 and if approved quotations for the works will be sought before an application is submitted to the Crown Estates.
