THE Lincolnshire Co-operative is celebrating after it was given a major honour at the annual Co-operative Excellence awards.
The local movement, which is marking its 150th anniversary and has shops dotted across the Skegness, Alford and Spilsby area, was given the KPMG Co-operative Enterprise of the Year award at the event.
The Lincolnshire Co-operative won the award by demonstrating how its approach has created a “sustainable and growing business built through strong member engagement” and values such as social responsibility and innovation in its market sector.
The Society’s award entry included details of projects set up to respond to a local community need, such as an alcohol awareness education initiative called ‘Safer Measures’ and a Local Choice range featuring products sourced from the trading area.
Lincolnshire Co-operative’s President, Steve Hughes, said: “We are incredibly proud to be recognised with this award, especially in our 150th year.
“We’re thankful to every one of our members who have supported us and also every colleague who has worked so hard to make the Society a success.”
The Lincolnshire Co-op has a host of celebrations planned to mark its 150th birthday, including the distribution of a £500,000 community grants pot and a concert.
The Excellence Awards were sponsored by accountants KPMG.
