High voltage cable fault caused power dip to thousands of Skegness homes

Thousands of Skegness homes experienced a dip in power yesterday following a fault in the high voltage underground cable supplying the town.

The dip occurred at around 5pm when an automatic system transferred power to another network, which also caused bright flashes on an overhead line.

The fault on the 33,000 volt cable is currently unknown but Western Power Distribution engineers are investigating.

As many as 3,000 homes are thought to have experienced the temporary power dip.
