A FAMILY-run business is waving a fond farewell to its loyal customers who have helped to make it a such success over the years.

Hewison’s Supermarket of 2 Winthorpe Avenue, Skegness, sadly closed their tills for the final time as its owners move to enjoy part retirement and others look to new business ventures.

The retail supermarket and post office has been a prime shopping outlet for the local community for many years and it is with regret that the Hewison’s chose to move on and let new owners take over and run it within the Spar group.

Oldest owner Albert Hewison, 83, said: “I wish to thank the suppliers, staff past and present and the customers in particular, for their support over the last half a century, both in friendship and in sales.”

Whether it be during the 7am papers or the 10pm late nights, Albert, Gillian and the rest of the crew feel they have served their way to enjoy success within the retail environment.

And Albert’s son, David Hewison echoed his father’s fond memories of the supermarket he said: “It’s very sad to see it go but we needed to think of the future. My dad wished to retire and I’d spent 35 years there so I will miss working there.

“We are all moving in different directions including my father’s wife Gillian and my wife Janet.”

Hewison’s Supermarket has traded as MACE, Happy Shopper Londis and eventually Spar who the new owners are currently working with.

“At 83, retirement beckoned, we had no oil left for shop bike and in conclusion of the past 60 odd years of retail, I would sincerely like to thank our customers once again, who over the years have not only given support, but also become good friends as well,” added Albert.
