East Lindsey councillors have given the thumbs-up to a controversial proposal for a pig fattening house to be built at Grange Farm on the outskirts of Sausthorpe.

The district council received eight objections from neighbours concerned about a potential proliferation of smell, flies and other nuisance.

However, the planning committee approved the application by pig production firm Hawkes Ltd after noting a report from senior case officer Chris Panton.

This stated: “It is not considered that the development will result in a significant harmful character on the character of the area or on the amenities of those living and working nearby.”
