Author seeks tales of former miners holidays

AN AUTHOR researching the Derbyshire Miners Welfare Holiday Camp has urged former employees and visitors to get in touch with their experiences of the facility.

Michelle Pattinson grew up in the camp as her family worked there for more than half a century and is now researching the camp’s history.

She said: “I would dearly love to hear from anyone who worked on the camp and I would love to
receive photos of the buildings and staff.

“I want to name as many staff as possible in the book as this is social history and I am passionate that it should not be forgotten.”

Michelle is hoping to put the book together as a fitting tribute for her mother, Valleries Bowmer who was the housekeeper on the camp for many years but died three years ago.

She also intends to arrange a reunion for former staff to be held at the Convalescent Home in Winthorpe on April 27, 2013.

A similar event she held earlier this year was attended by 80 people from all over country and Michelle id hoping for even more at next year’s event.
