A WISH came true for a disabled teenager and his family, when they were offered a dream holiday they never imagined to be possible.
Marc Perry, 13, recently jetted off to Florida with his two brothers and their parents, thanks to the work of the When You Wish Upon A Star charity.
Marc, who suffers from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, spent two wonderful weeks in the American resort, where he was able to visit Disneyland, Seaworld, Universal Studios and many other exciting excursions.
His mum, Jody Mumford, said: “It was absolutely brilliant, we got up to all sorts. They provided passes for lots of trips and hoisting equipment so he could go swimming. Marc copes very well with his condition and he doesn’t let it get him down but a holiday has not been something we’ve been able to even think about before. Wish Upon A Star were fantastic, they took the worry out of everything”
Muscular dystrophy is a progressive muscle wasting disorder which has left Marc confined to a wheelchair, unable to move his legs and with only limited use of his other limbs.
Thanks to the expert planning by the charity, Marc had access to the specialist equipment to help him enjoy all the fun holiday activities with his family.
Regional fund rasing manager Joanne Wright met with Marc and his family at their home in Burgh le Marsh to hear all about their amazing adventure.
Joanne said: “It was great to go and meet the family and hear Marc so animated about all of the things he has done and been able to experience. There’s no doubt that he is a very brave young man who has gone through a lot and will continue to do so, but it was wonderful to hear that he and is family enjoyed such a lovely time together.”
The Lincolnshire and Yorkshire regional branch of When You Wish Upon A Star, provide dream holidays to more than 50 disabled youngsters and their families every year, and a further hundred Christmas trips to Lapland.
