Beach Rangers’ Olympic honour

BEACH Rangers in Skegness have a touch of Olympic class after they were awarded a prestigious honour by the London 2012 Organising Committee.

The Inspire Mark is only awarded to projects that meet the values of London 2012, with only the most accessible, participative, inspiring and stimulating projects achieving the honour.

Launched by East Lindsey District Council in 2009, the Beach Rangers were set up to deliver fun activities and sports on the beaches in both Mablethorpe and Skegness free of charge throughout the summer months.

They have been compared to Butlins Redcoats in their role.

Leader of East Lindsey District Council, Coun Doreen Stephenson, said: “I am delighted that our district has achieved an Inspire Mark for the Beach Rangers programme, which continues to go from strength to strength each season.

“The Olympic Games will present our area with an important platform to promote ourselves to the world by raising the profile of what we do.

“In achieving this we’re continuing to work very closely with the London 2012 Organising Committee to try to ensure East Lindsey has a slice of the London 2012 action.

“As well as economic benefits, the games can also raise the aspirations of our community and give people enthusiasm and motivation to achieve their ambitions. We must embrace this opportunity to be part of the world’s biggest sporting event.“
