Alford Silver Band invite public to ‘free’ concert

Fans of Alford Silver Band will get the chance to see the band for free on Saturday, March 15.

The band will entertain in their free annual concert in The Corn Exchange, Market Place, Alford and the performance will start at 7.30pm.

“The free annual concert has become a tradition for the band,” explained band chairman Martin Briggs.

“It’s our way of thanking our followers for their support throughout the year. But it‘s also an opportunity for those who have heard about us, but have never experienced us ‘live’ to come and enjoy a performance free and gratis.”

The local band pride themselves with a strong tradition of professionalism in their performances, despite none of the players being paid, although some are semi-professional musicians, with other bands).

Led by musical director, Steve Walker, himself a trumpet player of international acclaim, the band guarantees an excellent evening of music and laughter.

Martin Joked: “We’re so sure that everyone will enjoy themselves that we’ll give the entrance fee back to anyone who doesn’t.”

“Steve Walker has put together a programme that caters for every musical taste, from the classics to, well, sheer Madness, it really is a programme not to be missed,” he added.

The band will also take the opportunity to recognise the achievements of some its own players with awards for musical progress, ‘bandsmanship’ and outstanding achievement, as well as an award for the member of the training section who has shown the most commitment over the year.

The band’s youthful training section will give a cameo performance to demonstrate their own emerging talent.

Although there is no entrance fee, the audience will be able to show their appreciation of the performance through a voluntary donation at the end of the evening. And there will be a raffle with some valuable prizes on offer.
