THE Rotary Club of Alford & Mablethorpe has welcomed news that polio eradication and other preventable diseases are to get a financial boost.
The local group regularly raises awareness and funds towards the cause, and members have gone out to countries such as India in the past - where Rotarians actually administer the polio vaccine.
New Club President Jim Needley said a recent announcement by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisations (GAVI) of $4.3bn worth of aid was to be applauded.
“We are thrilled that governments are putting their hands in their pockets.
“In our own area we have been working with the community to raise awareness and funds to support the End Polio Now campaign.
“It is thanks to the generosity of the public that we have managed to locally raise over £2100 so far and our efforts continue,” he added, thanking residents for their support.
