The Spilsby Area Group of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust had an early Christmas present with a donation of £750.

Dr David Cartwright from the Spilsby Freemason’s Shakespeare Lodge handed over a cheque to the group’s Chair, Stef Round, at their December meeting.

The money was to help fund a digital projector and associated hardware to use at the group’s monthly talks.

Dr Cartwright said the Shakespeare Lodge donates funds to many worthy causes and charities in Spilsby, just part of the over £170,000 Lincolnshire Lodges alone donate from their own pockets annually.

More than 40 people at the meeting were then entertained and informed with a talk by botanist Aidan Neary on the past and present flora of Lincolnshire and the efforts being made to identify, record and archive plants both here in Lincolnshire and at the Natural History Museum in London.

The programme to enthuse younger members of the community to take up botany is supported by the National Lottery Fund.

Any volunteers of any age group to help with all aspects of the work would be welcome.
