A CHANCE meeting at a holiday camp brought together a special romance which has lasted over 60 years.
James Billing Stacey, known as Jim, met his dutch beauty, Catharina Stacey née Lafeber, on the dance floor at the Butlins family holiday camp in Yorkshire.
Catharina was over in England for a meeting with her English pen friend who she had never met before.
And after that first meeting, Jim now 90, later went over to Holland and Catharina, now 92, back to England a few times before the couple soon realised that they would like to marry.
The pair married at the Our Lady Immaculate and St Andrew’s Church in Hitchin, Hertfordshire on November 17, 1951.
The pair settled in Letchford, Herfordshire and were there until November 1984 where they enjoyed many years of happy married life.
The duo then moved onto Hundleby near Spilsby and then later moved to Spilsby Town Centre, where they both still reside.
They have a son called John, two daughters, Elissabeth and Susan. five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren..
Jim now enjoys being president of the Spilsby branch of the Royal British Legion and Catharina enjoys socialising and has been part of a number of international clubs over the years.
To celebrate the joyous occasion, the couple enjoyed a meal and entertainment at the White Hart Hotel in Spilsby on Saturday, November 12.
Over 40 family members attended in total which included 10 who came over from Holland.
The couple decided to mark the event on Saturday because Jim celebrated his 90th birthday last Wednesday and they thought it would be a good way to mark the two.
Jim says of the secret love and being married for 60 years, “You’ve got to adjust to each other, my wife came to strange country and settled in England and I learnt dutch at the London Polytechnic after we met.”
