The Skegness Playgoers’ first get together of 2014 will be a social evening on Friday, January 17 from 7pm to 9pm.
This will be in the new Sub Klub, located inside Grand Central on Grand Parade, Skegness. The evening will be free entry and a buffet will be supplied.
Anyone signing up for new membership on that evening will receive a £2 reduction on the annual rate.
In other news, the Playgoers recently welcomed a new President when outgoing President Ray Taylor, at the age of 88, stood drown at the Society’s AGM.
Ray has been a member of Playgoers since 1957.
“A huge vote of thanks went from all the members to Ray for his years of unstinting support for the society,” said a spokesperson.
“Taking on the Presidency is longstanding member, and former Chairman, Sue Sharman – who will also be well-known to locals having performed many roles both on and off stage for the society, including organising the Play Festivals for many years.
“Like Ray Taylor before her, Sue has a wealth of experience and knowledge with which to support the ongoing work of Skegness Playgoers,” they added.
David Fisher was re-elected Chairman. Other new members of the Committee include Joanne Clay as Secretary, Karen Revill as Business Manager and Jon Russell as Social Secretary. Sharon Harris will take on the role of co-ordinator for the Adult Play Festival in addition to that of the Youth Play Festival.
Work is underway with Jon Russell and other members to breathe new life into CADS – the Children’s section of Skegness Playgoers - during 2014.
The society is still seeking to fill the role of a permanent Stage Manager. Call the Chairman, David Fisher, on 01754 760835.
