A new eight-week cookery course had got under way at Alford’s John Spendluffe Technology College 10 years ago.

The What’s Cooking? Club, lead by food technology teacher Sandy Kirk, was launched with the intention of giving people ideas for simple and inexpensive meals.

The emphasis was on health and the first session involved making fresh fruit smoothies.
