A THEATRE production based on the true story of 11 WI members who posed nude for a calendar to raise money for charity will bring their remarkable story to life in Skegness tonight (Thursday).
The Calendar Girls will perform for three consecutive nights at the Embassy Theatre Skegness on September 21, 22, and 23 from 7.30pm.
Calendar Girls opened at the Chichester Festival Theatre in 2008 and has since become the fastest selling play in British theatre history.
Adapted to stage from the 2003 movie, awarded best British comedy film, directed by Nigel cole and featuring actresses Helen Mirren and Julie Walters, the story begins when Annie’s husband John dies of leukaemia.
She and best friend Chris resolve to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room. They manage to persuade four fellow WI members to pose nude with them for an “alternative” calendar, with a little help from hospital porter and amateur photographer Lawrence.
The news of the women’s charitable venture spreads like wildfire and a series of heart-warming and emotional events unfolds in what will be an unmissable and uplifting amateur production of a real ‘life-story’.
The production is rated PG – as it contains some nudity. Tickets are priced at £12.50 and over-60s £11.50. For more information, or to buy tickets, call 0845 674 0505, visit www.embassytheatre.co.uk or pop into the box office in person during normal opening hours.
