Big US tuner launches 480bhp V8 into right-hand drive market

It’s a fair bet that tuned-up Mustangs are unlikely ever to be given names like Tintin or Fairy Delight. The latest in a long line of hot ‘Stangs to be apparently inspired by Clint Eastwood cop movies is this Q500 Enforcer from Steeda.

That brand might not be familiar to UK fans, but Steeda has been on the US tuning scene for a good while now. Besides selling a range of modded Fords in the American market, they claim to be the world’s largest aftermarket Ford specialist.

Now Steeda is bringing this relatively understated entrant to the right-hand drive Mustang market, after launching it at Britain’s Performance Car Show. Featuring focus-sharpening tweaks to both powertrain and chassis, the Enforcer’s main mechanical changes are uprated intake and exhaust systems and remapping for the 5.0-litre V8 engine to deliver new outputs of 480bhp and 485lb ft of torque (the standard 2018 Mustang GT figures are 444bhp and 389lb ft).

On the chassis side, Steeda has fitted adjustable suspension with bespoke spring plus thicker front and rear anti-roll bars with solid billet ends and mounts. There’s also a front strut brace and new traction-boosting rear subframe bushes.

The show car had satin black 20in wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, but UK customers can opt for 19in wheels with racier Cup tyres. Higher-spec coilover suspension with adjustable dampers also appear on the options list, as does a Tremec Magnum six-speed manual gearbox with some custom gear ratio choices, plus a strengthened clutch and driveshafts.

The Q500 Enforcer can be ordered from Ford Haynes in Kent. Its starting price of £50,093 (£8998 more than the regular Mustang GT) includes a manufacturer warranty.
