Could this be the biggest Easter egg in Lincolnshire?

Shoppers have been going crazy for the giant chocolate egg on display at an American sweet shop in Skegness - which has been a surprise for the creator as it was only meant for show.

Made on site at SugarSweet by local chocolatier Eva Szegner using the finest Belgian chocolate, it is 75cm tall and weighs 12.70 kg.

“Easter is one of the busiest times for us,” said Eva.

“Last year we used more than half a ton of chocolate just for Easter eggs and we have already had orders for the giant egg, which I didn’t expect, so we are expecting to use more this year.

“Our Easter eggs are available in milk, white, dark, ruby, sugarfree and dairy free chocolate too.

“We decorate them with an endless choice of sweets from chocolates to Americans’ favourite Jolly Rancher.

“Our customers can pick their favourite sweets as a front insert or filling, and we create their very own Easter eggs with a name or a personalised message for no extra fee.

“Unicorn eggs have been the most popular choice so far.”

Eva posted a picture of the giant egg on social media to see if anyone could find a bigger one in the county, but so far no-one has done.

This is the third season Eva and her husband, Gabe, have had the shop in Lumley Road, which has a French style cafe tucked in the back, where sweet-toothed customers can also enjoy coffee and cake.

Eva said: “I grew up in my dad’s little pub, so that’s where my love of food comes from.

“I always kept dreaming about being successful in something like my daddy was, but as a child my passion was sweets and chocolate.

“A few years later, when I had the chance to be the owner of my own shop, I felt my childhood dream came true.

“So every single Easter egg of mine is made with love, and a hope that I can put a smile on a child’s face, just as big as our giant Easter egg.”

Serious chocolate lovers would have to fork out £195 to buy the egg - but customers have the chance to win it if they spend £25 in store.

According to the Guinness Book of Records, the tallest chocolate Easter egg in the world measured 10.39m (34ft 1.05in) in height and was made by Tosca in Italy. It was measured at the Acciaierie Shopping Centre in Cortenuova, Italy, on April 16, 2011, weighing 7,200kg and had a circumference of 19.6m (64ft 3.65in) at its widest point.
