'Thank you Skegness' - fish shop says it with chips

Things have just got batter for communities in the Skegness area struggling through the latest lockdown.

Harry Ramsbottoms on Grand Parade is set to open three days a week offering fish and chips with discounts of up to 50 per cent.

In addition 10 per cent of takings will be donated to the Lumley Lodge Freemasons to support the distribution of meals to local families in need.

Victor Fox, who owns the fish and chip shop, helped the community during the first lockdown, providing free fish and chips to key workers.

With support from the Lumley Lodge Freemasons, of which he is a member, during seven weeks Harry Ramsbottoms supplied .1459 Fish and Chips, 806 Sausage and Chips, 291 Battered burger and Chips, 208 Fish Cake and chips, 112 Fish Finger and Chips, 580 pots of Gravy, and 2100 pots of Mushy Peas.

Offering massive discounts on his menu is the latest way Mr Fox has found to help more local families during this difficult time.

"It's about saying 'thank you' to Skegness for their support over the years," he said.

"I've been a businessman here for 55 years and the town has been good to me.

"I'm not looking to make a profit from this - I'm fortunate I can afford to do it.

"But I came from a coal mining family in Sheffield and I have seen what it is like to worry about putting the next meal on the table and paying bills.

"I think you have to experience it to really know how hard it is for families at the moment and that is why I am doing this.

The offer is open to residents in the Skegness area only and will run on Fridays and Saturdays from 11.30am to 7pm and Sundays 12.30pm to 5pm. It will continue until the end of lockdown on February 15.

The discounted menu includes

Kids meals - £1.50

Battered quarter pound burger and chips - £2.50

Sausage and chips - £1.99

Large fish cake and chips - £1.99

Large chips with either peas/curry sauce / beans/ or gravy - £1.99

Large cod or haddock and chips - £3.50
