The store opened on Saturday in time for the summer season and the re-opening of caravan parks and other accommodation, when thousands are expected to descend on the popular coastal town,

The 7,155 square feet store is situated in Sea Lane and has created 16 new jobs.

With a boom in British holidays expected in the wake of Coronavirus, Poundland says it is more excited than ever to be opening in the town.

Before coronavirus, travel association ABTA reported that more than half of Britons were planning a domestic holiday in 2020 because of uncertainty about Brexit. Many travel experts predict a post-Covid surge in demand for “staycations” because of restrictions on foreign trips and a government pledge to champion British tourism and relax rules on travel at home when it is safe to do so.

The new store is a short distance from Butlin’s Skegness resort and Ingoldmells’ Fantasy Island theme park, traditionally two of the region’s biggest attractions.

Poundland Ingoldmells will apply the same robust standards of hygiene and social distancing that have been put in place across Poundland to protect colleagues and customers.

The majority of Poundland stores have remained open during the coronavirus outbreak as essential retailers serving their local communities. They include Poundland in Lumley Road, Skegness, just three miles away.

Ingoldmells will offer Poundland’s range of everyday items, including groceries, homeware, and health and beauty at simple prices from 50p to £5. Around three quarters of its products still sell at the core price point of £1.

It is also one of the first Poundland stores to include a mini PEP&CO fashion “shop-in-shop”, offering a comprehensive range of kidswear and clothes for mum and dad. It follow successful trials of the new format at five stores last year. PEP&CO prices start at £1 and 95 per cent of the range is under £10.

Austin Cooke, Poundland retail director, said: “Poundland loves to be beside the seaside and like many others we expect the great British holiday to become more popular than ever as life returns to normal.

“We were delighted to open our doors and we were blown away by the reaction.

"It seems customers have fallen in love with our small PEP&CO fashion ranges, with well over half of our customers buying something from it.

"We're looking forward to serving Ingoldmells - locals, day-trippers, or holidaymakers - for years to come, and look forward to playing our part in helping it bounce back.”
