Reassurance for kiosks in Skegness forced to stay closed during pedestrianisation

Good weather saw the town looking busy at the weekend - with kiosks near the Lifeboat Station open for business.

However, along Tower Esplanade where pedestrianisation is underway, the kiosks have remained closed in spite of Covod-19 guidelines allowing them to trade with takeaway food.

Duncan Hollingworth, Service Manager (Property and Technical Services) at East Lindsey District Council, said: “Works on Tower Esplanade continue to progress well, however, we have experienced an unavoidable delay with the delivery of the block paving due to an issue with the production process.

"Our contractors are doing all they can to accelerate the process and minimise the delay.

"We are still on track to have the majority of the main areas completed prior to Easter, when a number of the concessions in the area may choose to open on a takeaway basis.

"Where we are unable to complete the paving in time, we will work with concessions to ensure they have suitable temporary access to their premises to allow them to trade.”

The pedestrianisation is the final phase of £400,000 improvements to Tower Esplanade through the Skegness Town Deal, which have seen the installation of new street furniture and unique curved lighting structures.

This project will also see traffic re-routing work done to direct vehicles along Princes and South Parade into the Festival Car Park.

Further up the coast, as part of the Mablethorpe Town Deal, Sutton on Sea's 1950's Colonnade is being demolished to be replaced with a café/ restaurant, day let beach huts and gallery space

Further projects for both towns have also been identified in each areas Town Investment Plans (TIPs), which serve as each area's bid for up to £25m of funding. Projects identified in the TIPs include a new modern Learning Campus in Skegness and a renovated leisure centre in Mablethorpe.
