Fish and chips - the quintessentially Skegness dish - has topped a poll of the nation’s favourite meals.
More than a fifth of adults surveyed in the poll, conducted by the appliance brand Kenwood, listed the classic seaside treat as their number one, closely followed by home cooked meals, fresh seafood and roast dinners.
The research has been conducted to coincide with the launch of a Food Lovers Bucket List, covering ‘essential foodie experiences’ compiled by some of Britain’s best known gastronomes.
While childhood memories of licking the spoon when making a cake topped the list of homely experiences, fish and chips on a pier, was again number one for the eating out list.
TV chef Simon Rimmer, one of the experts behind the list, said: “We’ve pulled together what we believe to be the ultimate unmissable gastronomic experiences for food loving Brits.
“From the simple pleasures of a port pie, to soaking up the spice markets of Marrakech, there’s something on there for everyone.
“We hope it inspires foodies to get out and try new things or even create their own food bucket lists to munch their way through.”
