An egg and spoon race on horseback is just one of the enticing attractions at today’s Summer Fete at the Northcote Heavy Horse Centre.
The fete and live music event at the popular Great Steeping animal centre got underway this morning at 10.45am.
And Northcote’s Terena Bolam was outside the Hildreds Centre in Skegness yesterday with one of the majestic beasts to promote the festivities.
“We are here with Steve today to show the lovely public of Skegness our beautiful Canadian perchenons who will be taking part in barrel racing and possibly an egg and spoon race on horseback,” she said
“So we want people to come and support the event and help us raise lots of money to help the centre and keep all of our horses and ponies in feed and keep going in the summer and winter months.”
The fete is one of the major fundraisers for the sanctuary, which is a registered charity and provides homes to horses and ponies that need their help.
This year’s fete will also be hosting some live music from local musicians organised by The Bell Pub at Halton Holegate, who will also be running their outside licensed bar on the day too.
In addition there will be displays and demonstrations from the centre’s own horses as well as falconer Derek Tindall and his birds of prey.
There will be stalls and food available as well as games, have a go archery and more.
The day runs into the evening and admission is £5 for adults and £3 for children and OAPs.
“The day is set to be a wonderful family day out,” said Terena.
“The sanctuary has been running for 24 years and these types of events really help to boost the much needed income in order to care for the big and small horses that live at the charity’s home.”
