Skegness will be celebrating its new role as the official home of English beach soccer by hosting the opening of its national league next month.

Beach Promotions Ltd is set to kick-start the new season with a sporting extravaganza over the second May Bank Holiday (May 25 to 27) and has invited local teams to take part.

CEO Gary Shepherd said: “It’s only right that we start the national tournament here in Skegness as this is where we hope to make England’s national team home and where the National Stadium is being built.

“We’ve had great support from local people and we hope that all of the Lincolnshire teams consider entering the tournament. The aim of the tour is to boost grass roots level and to increase awareness of the sport.”

Teams from throughout the county are invited to enter, with the regional winners returning for the national finals, which will also be held in Skegness, at the new 2,000 seater Beach Stadium in September.

The England team will be playing exhibition games against the winners of each regional leg while national talent scouts look to recruit potential sporting stars of the future.

Other exciting activities taking place over the weekend, in keeping with the sport’s party-spirited ethos, include Sunday night festivities featuring live music, barbecues, a fashion show and much more.

Local businesses and performers are invited to contribute to the party’s entertainment by contacting Taryn Johnston on 07737 143330.

An application fto build the Beach Stadium has been submitted and organisers are confident of its success.
