Volunteers and members of Skegness Carnival Committee are in situ at their fundraising pop-up shop in the Hildreds shopping Centre raising funds for the carnival until Sunday, August 3.

Fundraising at the temporary shop started on Monday, July 28 and all items have been donated by local businesses and the general public, with new items arriving all the time.

All proceeds from the shop will be used to fund the Skegness carnival to pay for the marching bands, event marshalls, the advertising of the event and insurance.

Skegness Carnival Chairman Margaret Taylor said: “Fundraising has gone very well so far and our aim is to raise £1,500 from shop sales. Not everyone realises but the cost of the Skegness Carnival this year has so far reached £7,500 and we also have to raise enough money this year to cover the costs of next year’s carnival.”

As well as the sale of all kinds of general bric-a-brac, raffle tickets can also be purchased.

First prize on the raffle is a gas barbecue, second prize is a £50 voucher for Home Bargains and third prize is a game of golf for two at North Shore Golf Club.

On Sunday, August 3 an event will also take place in the Tower Gardens with an all day barbecue taking place from 10am-4pm in aid of carnival funds.

This year’s carnival will have a heroes and heroines theme, there will be six day’s of events and all the fun begins on Sunday, August 10 until Friday, August 15.
