Don't miss chance to join summer fun says Skegness teenager

More than 180 young people across the region have taken part in the four week part-residential programme, with activities such as raft building, caving, rock climbing and self-defence classes - and they are encouraging others to do the same.

Dilys Lloyd, 16, from Skegness said: “I’ve made lots of new friends who I’m sure I will keep in touch with. I’ve loved the independence of the residential stay and have been pushed out of my comfort zone by many of the activities.”

The programme includes a week’s stay at an outdoor adventure centre with activities such as archery and kayaking, followed by a week at a university where young people work with local businesses to improve employability skills, develop inter-personal skills and build confidence.

As part of the second week the Lincolnshire programme is also working with the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust to present the business challenge. Each week either Olympic swimmer Grant Turner or Commonwealth medallist and badminton player Jenny Wallwork will work with the group to help with skills such as project planning and public speaking. Teens will also complete a project during which they give back to their communities by volunteering and fundraising.
