Acclaimed US jazz band for SO festival

A Grammy-nominated jazz band has been announced as the latest act to join the line-up at this year's SO Festival.

Los Angeles-based California Feetwarmers will be travelling more than 5,500 miles to peform pop-up gigs across Skegness before and during SO Festival’s finale weekend.

The seven-piece band, who will be making their debut at the event, play traditional 1920s New Orleans jazz.

Tuba player for the band Brandon Armstrong said: “We are very excited to meet the people of Lincolnshire and see some fantastic performances during SO Festival.

“There is an incredible amount of talent in Lincolnshire and it’s great that so many people at the festival will be able to experience it. Los Angeles has a lot to see, but we don’t have anything quite like SO Festival. We are travelling more than 5,500 miles to be at this festival and we can’t wait.

“Our pop-up gig is irresistibly dance-able and incorporates the happy rhythms of early jazz. We try to choose songs that may have been forgotten due to antique recordings or those that are rarely performed live. This includes ragtime tunes from the 1890s that were written for the banjo or piano, as well as original numbers written by us, which fits in with the music style of that era.”

California Feetwarmers are just one of the exciting highlights to come to SO Festival this year.

The annual free event promises nine days of explosive entertainment across Mablethorpe, Horncastle,
Alford, Louth, Spilsby, Woodhall Spa and Skegness from Saturday, June 25, to Sunday, July 3.

This year, the festival will be taking inspiration from the rural, agricultural and coastal landscapes of East Lincolnshire by focusing on ‘the elements’ – earth, air, fire and water.

Lorna Fulton, festival director for SO Festival said: “We cannot wait to see California Feetwarmers entertain the crowds in Skegness this year. Their exciting and boisterous act will have everybody up and dancing.

“This year is already proving to be our biggest festival to date and with an array of exciting, free acts for all the family to see, it is really not an event to be missed.”

California Feetwarmers will be performing during the afternoon and evening at various locations throughout Skegness from June 28 to July 3.
