WITH no events in the area, two Alford Wheelers travelled out of the county to compete, with excellent results.
Eddie Kaye rode in the Melton olympic open 25 on the A1 at Long Bennington on Saturday evening, and recorded an all time personal best of 57 minutes 19 seconds, finishing 16th in a top class field of 78 riders.
At the same time, Craig Lamb had travelled further north along the A1 to Ranby, where he took part in the VTTA north midlands 25, recording a time of 57 mins 52 secs to finish 31st out of a field of more than 100.
The weather was poor for the midweek 10 mile league event on the Sutton on Sea road.
Nevertheless, 22 riders braved the rain, and some reasonable times were recorded.
The winner was Phil Heyes, in 23 mins 32 secs, with Mick Pell runner-up in 25-02, and Dave Allen third in 25-24.
Other top placings were: fourth, Nick Cooper 25-35; fifth, Paul Ripley 26-02; sixth, Stephan Bryan 26-10; seventh, Brendon Thomas 26-11, eighth, Richard Mumby 27-22; ninth, Arthur Middleton 28-18; tenth, Dave Leonard 28-19.
In the under 16s category, the winner was Tyler Wright in 25-52, with Ryan Thomas second in 26-13, and Aaron Rowley third, with a personal best of 27-28.
Fourth, Michael Rothery 29-01; fifth, Joel Martinez 34-10; sixth, Bruno Gillick 35-25; seventh, Luke King 36-26.
The handicap section was won by Joel Martinez in 34-10 (allowance 14-52) nett 19-18; second, Andrew Mawer 33-14 (allowance 13-04) nett 20-10; third, John Martinez 33-28 (allowance 13-01) nett 20-27.
