TWO Skegness Town footballers played their part in helping the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire league representative side into the second round of the FA inter-league cup.
Goalkeeper Michael Emery and Liam Papworth featured in the first round tie at home to the Anglian Combination at Sleaford’s Eslaforde Park ground.
After racing to a 2-0 lead through Tom Sergeant’s penalty kick and a Craig Gordon strike, Lincolnshire conceded a goal four minutes before the interval when Lee Mason headed home.
Jason Armes levelled for the visitors early in the second half, but Gordon grabbed the winner in the 73rd minute.
Both sides finished the game with ten men after red cards for Lincolnshire’s Nick Bishop and Anglian’s David Harwood.
The competition is seen as an opportunity for amateur players to taste European cup action.
Last season’s winners Guernsey represented England in the UEFA regions cup, beating Wales and drawing with Croatia before going out at the hands of Turkey.
