Alford Ladies 1st 2
Alford travelled to face a young Cambridge University side After a lengthy wait due to an overrun game.
When the game started the home team moved the ball around with ease, whilst Alford were still trying to get to grips with the feel of the pitch.
Having been awarded a short corner the Cambridge University striker hit the ball goalwards. It appeared to be an easy stop for defender Nikii Hind on the post.
However just as Hind was about to gather the ball up it took a cruel bounce straight over the stick into the back of the goal, much to the defender’s embarrassment.
From the restart Alford pressed for an equaliser and were rewarded with a short corner, however the home team were more used to the cut of the pitch and dealt with Alford’s efforts to remain on top.
Alford were eventually rewarded for their efforts when right half Tracy Le’Gate quickly took a long corner to the top of the ‘D’, where captain Chloe Bolland retrieved it and hit it towards left wing Vicky Allen on the post, who gladly pushed it over the line for Alford to level.
Cambridge stepped up their play and again pressed to take the lead, with the ball heading in on the left post. Both keeper Carole Jacklin and defender Nikii Hind dived to the floor to prevent a certain goal and between them they forced the ball out for a short corner.
Shortly before half time the home team struck again to take the lead. With the play centred on their right drawing the Cambs and Alford players in that direction a deft pass to the ‘P’ spot found a loan striker and, with Le’Gate and Jacklin to beat on the goal line, the striker lifted the ball over their heads.
The second half saw a rejuvenated Alford side determined not to lose the game.
Alford’s passing greatly improved and they were able to find space to press for an equaliser. While the defence held firm and marked closely to prevent the home side from gaining any advantage, a quickly taken free hit from defender Nikii Hind was passed to Chloe Bolland who swept the ball again towards the waiting Vicky Allen who fired home Alford’s deserved equaliser.
Despite Alford’s efforts pressing forward, the game ended all square.
A good battling performance from the whole team saw performances of note from Kelly Tuplin and Nikii Hind. Man of the match went to goal scorer Vicky Allen. DOD was awarded to Nikii Hind.
