Skegness 366 for 5
Market Deeping 236 for 5
SKEGNESS finished their 2011 season on a high note with a winning draw against Market Deeping.
Skipper Wade McCall was top scorer as the seasiders hit 366 runs at Richmond Drive.
He finished unbeaten on 151 and there were half centuries for Jamie Epton and Carl Wilson as Skegness rediscovered some of their batting form.
Sadly for the home side it was too little too late to lift them out of the league’s drop zone.
Batting first, Skegness got off to a flying start and raced to 39 before the first wicket fell in the seventh over.
The free-scoring Jamie Epton and Paul Butler put on a further 28 before Butler departed for a duck.
This brought McCall to the crease and he partnered Epton (75) in a third wicket stand of 96, before going on to help make 192 for the fourth wicket with Carl Wilson (71).
The seasiders finished with 366 for 5 from their 50 overs with McCall pipping Pete Houghton for the highest score of the season. His 151 included 18 fours and three sixes.
In reply Charlie Kearns and Chris Jones put on 57 for the first wicket, but the visitors were nowhere near the asking rate.
Indeed half way through their overs they had reached only 91, but they scored enough to claim the fifth batting point.
Top scorer for Deeping was Alex Wheatley, who made an unbeaten 60.
But encouraging for Skegness was the ECB debut of 16-year-old Dan Nuttall, who claimed two wickets in his seven overs with the ball.
