County cricketer Daniel Freeman was presented with the Most Promising League Newcomer trophy at the ECB dinner earlier this year.

He has continued that promise with his performances this season, taking Grantham to the top of the table.

On Saturday it was Skegness who felt the brunt as the Grantham skipper Freeman took seven wickets and then hit an unbeaten half century for the league leaders.

A number of the seasiders reached double figures and looked set to go on to make a good score, only to perish before the 50 mark.

After being put into bat the home side lost Pradeep Chanditha early on, before Alistair Ainsworth and Jamie Epton put on 57 for the second wicket.

Dylan Labuschagne got among the runs, hitting three fours in his 28 before being run out with the score on 118 for 5.

There was another notable knock from overseas player Ray Jordan, batting at seven.

Yet again the West Indian all rounder top scored for the seasiders, with a 40-ball 37 that included three sixes and two fours.

Thomas Cuthbert (21) also hit a six in his brief 12-ball stay at the stumps, but Skegness were all out for 193 as Grantham grabbed their final bowling point with the penultimate ball of the innings.

In response, James Dobson was the stand out batsman for the visitors, smashing 53 from 33 balls.

And when he left, Grantham captain Freeman took over to take the visitors over the line with 16 overs to spare.

Umar Farooq was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets.

On Saturday Skegness travel to neighbours Boston for a 12 noon start.
