The Seasiders Netball Club are the Lincolnshire League Division One Champions.
The last match of their season confirmed the title would come back to Skegness and the Seasiders Blue side not only won their match against Lincoln City by a convincing 47 to 32 victory, but also remained unbeaten throughout.
It has taken six long years to achieve this accolade, with the ladies having to commit to regular training and hours of travel as they trek across the length and breadth of the county.
This year the league decided to use a central venue – Deans Sports Centre in Lincoln and this has really suited the team, as scalp after scalp was taken.
Coach, Paula Hill said, “consistency has paid off – the team has kept the same core players and they have really gelled and upped their game with new techniques, skills and tactics, learnt over the winter months and put them into their game to outwit the opposition”.
Superb shooting from Cleo Whyman and Jo Gowshall (385 goals in eight matches) makes them one of the best attacking teams in the league.
The defending partnership of Laura Sykes and Sarah Bierley has been solid all season with interceptions and rebounds taken with ease to move the ball down through the centre court to the ultra-speedy Alison Pieniak, Nicola Ingamells and Alice McKenna.
The team, at times, have had to call up Michelle Bruntlett from the second team and she has been a delightful addition to the squad, taking up her usual shooting position on occasions, and at centre court, when the team were short, Michelle has complemented the squad and fitted in with ease.
The team will collect their trophies in April, but are now training for the regional play-offs in July, when they attempt to win a place in the East Midlands Regional League.
