Captain leads the charge with a try brace

Skegness 1st XV 46

Nottingham Corsairs 5

Smith delivered with the first possession of the game as he ran hard and strong at the opposition backs. They could not bring down the winger who crashed over to score.

Frost playing as flanker had a good game running at every opportunity. He scored a deserved try in the corner to further extend the travelling side’s lead.

Vice Captain Cook also got his name on the score sheet as he raced over into the corner after more good handling and support play. Corsairs scored a try of their own which made the half time score 24-5 to the seasiders.

The second half saw Skegness under pressure but for once disciplined work and organised defence halted any forward momentum for the home side.

Skegness soon began to score more tries at Farnsworth capitalised on Taylors running to give the fullback the points.

Lucas showed that hookers can also be good runners as he out stripped the covering defence to score in the corner.

Captain Halliday showed his team the level of commitment he gives and demands from his team as he scored a brace of tries and received the man of the match award. The final score was 46-5, with five points added to the league.

Skegness now sits in third position in the table with a home game against Nottinghamians next week.

Skegness plays RAF Waddington under lights on Wednesday, October 31 at 7.30pm KO.
