YOUNGSTERS from all over the county travelled to Alford, where the Wheelers promoted the Lincolnshire heat of the national under 17s GHS 10-mile championship, on the Sutton on Sea road.
The rain had cleared in time for the start, and some excellent times were recorded.
The winner was Peter Cocker, of the Grantham-based Witham Wheelers, who recorded 22mins 44secs, with Callum Rogers, of Scunthorpe Poly second in 22-51, and Alford’s Peter Rothery third in a personal best time of 23-03.
The girls’ winners were Jennifer McAndrew, in 27.47, with Sian Botteley second in 28-21, both from Bourne; and the team winners were the Witham Wheelers.
They will all go to compete in the national final near Leicester in September.
Alford’s other riders were: seventh, Tyler Wright 25-30; eighth, Ryan Thomas 25-49; ninth, Aaron Rowley 26-47; 15th, Michael Rothery 27-59; 21st, Joel Martinez 32-32.
