Rain fails to keep fish away

HEAVY rain didn’t stop the fish having a go at the latest Southview Skegness open match, won by Joe McCormack.

Joe’s home-made floating thod did the damage, and he caught 48lb of crueys and 43lb 8oz of carp to take top spot with 91lb 8oz.

Second place went to Terry Moakes, who used the same tactics, for a total weight of 76lb 8oz, all carp.

The floating thod is on sale at Tackle 4 U, in Skegness.

The next match will take place on Saturday, July 23, starting at 8.30pm, fishing from 9.30am-2.30pm.

Results: 1 Joe McCormack, Southview, 91lb 8oz, 2 Terry Moakes, Southview, 76lb 8oz, 3 John Gooden, Mill Don Baits, 70lb 4oz, 4 Ian Boden, Chapel St Leonards, 63lb 2oz.

l ADMIRAL Benbows beach was the venue for Chapel Beach Angling Club’s latest match.

The match took place between 5.30-9.30pm, and there was a decent turnout. The sea was flat, calm and the weather was variable with the odd rain shower. Unfortunately, after the match started the sand dredger arrived and put the fish off.

The winner was Robbo with a bag weight of 2lb 2oz, and in second place was Carl Straw, with a bag weight of 1lb loz.

The winner of the biggest flat fish was Glyn Davies with a 15oz flounder.
