THERE was an excellent turnout when Alford Wheelers held a 10-mile time trial championship on the Sutton on Sea road.
With good weather conditions, the 37 competitors recorded some interesting times, including no fewer than 10 personal bests.
The best of these came from in-form 16-year-old Peter Rothery, a first year junior whose time of 22 mins 53 secs was 17 seconds clear of top senior Chris O’Rourke in 23-10, with Mark Hill third in 24-08.
Other top placings were: fourth, Dave Allen 24-11; fifth, Simon Needham 24-30; sixth, Mick Pell 25-11; seventh, Brendon Thomas 25-25; eighth, Nick Cooper 25-26; ninth, John Needham 25-39; tenth, Mark Bembridge 25-46; jt 11th, Stefan Bryan and Paul Ridley 25-48.
In the under 16s championship, the winner was Tyler Wright in 25-42, with Ryan Thomas runner-up in 26-42, and Michael Rothery third in 27-31.
The handicap section was won by Andrew Mawer in 30-24 (allowance 10-47), nett 19-37, with Michael Rothery in second in 27-31 (allowance 7.50), nett 19-41 and Chris O’Rourke in third in 23-10 (allowance 3-21), nett 19-49.
