Victory sees the Aces clinch promotion spot

WMC Aces secured runners-up spot in the William Hill Darts League's Sid Dennis and Sons Ltd Division Two, ensuring their promotion to Division One.

With Finnegans already crowned champions, the battle for second saw three teams all in with a shout in the final round of fixtures.

Two of those teams met as Cricket Club took on Seaview Raiders, where a draw would do neither team any good.

As the singles were shared 3-3 there had to be a winner.

First blood went the way of Cricket Club as they took the first pairs before S. Bourke (125, 140) and partner J. Epton (2x140) won to secure victory, Seaview winning the last pairs to go down 7-5.

Cricket Club had P. Lucas (3x140) and S. Chamberlain (2x140) also on the scoresheet while Raiders’ Barry Taylor (2x140) and Steve Gillings (121, 129, 2x140) high Scoring.

Although they didn’t know it, WMC Aces held their fate in their own hands, and they set about Chatsworth Hotel in fine style, winning the singles 5-1, Mick Jones the only casualty for the Aces.

The Aces then went on to win all the doubles, running out 11-1 winners with Gareth Jowett (125, 2x140) and his team securing runners-up spot.

Chatsworth had D. Howland (2x121) and C. Arabin (132, 133) high Scoring.

Champions Finnegans were rampant against the Ex Service C, dishing out a 12-0 beating.

Liberal Us were away at Welcome Hillbillies and, with the help of (Matt Reeson 2x140) and Stuart Giles (2x125), came away with a well earned 10-2 win.

With one outstanding game for Welcome Hillbillies, the bottom team will be looking for their first win against the Seaview Raiders.

In the Sid Dennis and Sons Ltd Division One the 15-Dart Challenge was held at the Liberal Club, with Mark Gray finshing on top.

Jamie Cooper dispatched Ray Bettison 3-2, beating the resurgent Wayne Burles by the same scoreline.

When he faced teammate Ken Wilson in the quarter finals, it was Ken all the way with a 3-0 win.

Lee Dore snr beat Gary Garton 3-2 in the early rounds, hitting a 180 against Carl Parnham in the quarters, which Carl won 3-2.

In the semi-final, 501s teammates Carl and Ken Wilson met, Ken winning 3-0.

The other half of the draw saw Chris Fletcher beat Eric Hammond 3-2 before Mark Gray defeat Rick Seaman 3-0 and Chris 3-1 to move into the semis. Chris Simpson had a very high scoring 3-0 over Richard Jackson, which he backed up with another 3-0 win against Julian Smith, to book his semi final berth.

In a great highscoring game between himself and Mark Gray it was Mark who just edged it 3-2, helped by his two 180s.

The final saw Ex Service’s Ken Wilson face Ex Service Sports’ Mark, Mark winning 3-1.

Sunday, May 15 sees Pro-Am Qualifier number three held at the Ex Service with a 1.30pm start.

Entry costs £2 and it is a last man standing format.
