Skegness netball high fliers celebrate season of success

The flourishing Skegness Hildreds Netball League toasted a successful season at its annual presentation night last week.

More netballers than ever are playing the game regularly according to Sport England’s Active People survey, with 164,100 people competing at least once a week making netball the fastest-growing female team sport last year.

The Skegness Hildreds Netball League has been thriving for more than 30 years and includes more than 120 women representing a wide age range.

Some of the league’s biggest talents have even gone on to represent the Seasiders’ Netball Team who were proud to finish fourth in the County League this year.

They missed out on third place by a goal average of just 0.01, the closest result in the league since it began.

Dozens of awards were handed out at the Grosvenor House Hotel earned to last season’s outstanding ladies and girls.

Among them were Team K&S did the team double, picking up winners’ trophies for both the Winter and Summer Leagues.

The Pat Fountain Memorial award for Young Player of the Season was presented to Natasha Scott by Pat’s grandson, Nyle Chapman, while Hannah Willis was named Most Improved Player.

Joint winners for Player of the Year were Beka Littleworth and Danielle Wressell, while Seasiders’ Player of the Year went to Alison Pieniak.

The league runs on Wednesday evenings at the Skegness Academy during school terms, and always welcomes new ladies looking to join.

Its annual meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 7 from 7pm at the sports centre on Burgh Road.
