Promotion to go to the wire

SKEGNESS Indoor Bowls Club’s men travelled to Horncastle to play their latest County league division two match and lost a closely fought contest by nine shots.

Bryn Foxon skipped the only winning rink 17-14.

Horncastle had the best of the early exchanges and maintained a narrow advantage, but Skegness battled back to draw level at 74 all with only a couple of ends left to play.

However Horncastle proved to be the stronger finishers on the day edging the remaining rinks by one, two, four and five shots to claim victory 16 points to 2.

This result leaves Skegness needing to win their last match by at least 16-2 to have a chance of clinching runners-up and promotion.

The under 18s played Stamford recently and got off to a slow start trailing 2-8 after six ends before rallying to lead 15-11 after 16.

However Stamford produced a storming finish to run out winners 24-17.

The over 60s B team visited Lincoln to play their C team in the County league division two and were well beaten 133-62, returning with no points as all rinks lost.

The weekend squad played a friendly against Whittlesey and went down 89-97.

K. Startin skipped the only winning rink 23-13 and R. Sylvester drew 20-20.

The semi-finals of the men’s club triples produced wins for B. Foxon 24-8 over R. Storey and for A. Irving 14-7 over B. Hawes.

In the ladies trips A. Salmon beat A. Bramley 22-16 and there was a walk-over in the other semi.

The fight for the title in the Birds league remains close after the Eagles beat Kites 20-18,

Doves defeated Ptarmigans 18-14 and Road Runners thrashed Wrens 32-5.

In the ladies’ league leaders Hopefuls stayed on track defeating Crystals 17-15, Genesis kept in touch beating Diamonds 22-8 while Vixens saw off Ladybirds 28-4.

The battle for second spot in the evening trips division two is a three way fight between Foxes, who had two wins this week 21-8 and 22-14, Figmants who won 25-8 and Avante who drew 13-13 and defeated Champions Challengers 20-14.

In division one leaders Plebs came from 10-2 down to beat Strollers 16-14 but Help maintained the pressure with two victories 25-5 and 20-14.
