Golf centre raises charity cash after day on the greens

Skegness Golf Centre held a charity golf day in aid of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Support UK.

Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) is a genetic disorder in which the structure of connective tissue is abnormal due to a gene mutation.

This results in abnormally fragile and hyper-extensible tissues throughout the body, the symptoms of EDS are dislocation of the joints, immense fatigue, heart valve abnormalities and joint pain.

The open competition was a pairs betterball stableford format held over 18 holes, with nearest the pin on the fifth hole, a putting competition after the round and longest drive challenge on the newly-installed golf simulator.

The player who won nearest the pin was Craig Whiley, the putting champion was Ron Sheen and the longest drive winner was M. Sewell.

The main tournament winners were Anthony Sheldon and Paul Devereux with 49 stableford points.

In a close second place were Jamie Cameron and Darren Whittingham with 48 points, while Ellis and Jonathan Balding came third with 45 points.

A total of £190 was raised for the charity.

The next open event at Skegness Golf Centre will be the third annual Hole Knockout evening on Friday, July 15 from 5pm onwards, raising money for The Radcliffe Donkey Sanctuary.

The evening will consist of the main knock-out event over the par three, third hole, a two-hole strokeplay competition, a putting competition, longest drive challenge on the golf simulator and a barb ecue, which is open to anyone who would like to come along.
