ECB Premier League
Skegness 133 all out
Bourne 137 for 1
Bourne moved to the top of the Lincolnshire ECB Premier League with this nine-wicket victory over Skegness.
The Seasiders won the toss and chose to bat, but found themselves on the back foot when Colin Cheer bowled Scott Tallott in the first over.
The score after the first over was 3 for 1 and this became 43 for 2 off eight overs after Pete Houghton was caught behind by former Skegness wicket keeper Carl Wilson off Cheer’s bowling.
Jamie Epton’s removal left the seasiders on 48 for 3, but they suffered no further loss by the first drinks break at 17 overs.
With Norman Brackley and Paul Butler at the crease there was hope for the visitors, but six overs later they were both back in the pavilion and Skegness were 106 for 5.
The unfortunate run out of overseas player Brendan Young left Skegness on 113 for six at the halfway stage and this soon became 123 for 9 when Cheer returned to the attack.
The seasiders managed just one bonus point for their batting by reaching 133 all out with still 18 overs of their innings remaining.
Pick of the home side’s bowlers was Cheer, who finished with four wickets for 38 off 11 overs.
Bourne’s opening batsmen skipper Peter Morgan and Ben Stroud wasted no time in pursuit of the visitors’ meagre total.
Morgan hit 14 boundaries in his 72-ball 70 before being caught by Umar Farooq off his own bowling.
Stroud, who made 40, partnered Conrad Louth past the target in the 28th over.
On Saturday Skegness are at home to champions Sleaford at Richmond Drive, starting at 12 noon. Sleaford’s line up is expected to include record-breaking Kiwi batsman Tim McIntosh.
