The Wainfleet & District Sporting Motorcycle Club hosted The Robert Chatterton Trophy Meeting on Sunday May 5.
An action packed day of racing in bright sunshine was the order of the day, in front of a big crowd for this youth Super Speed track event, at the club’s superb Irby-in-the-Marsh venue.
A fantastic opening meeting for 2013 with such close racing in adult Solo and 1000cc Sidecars, the club also incorporated a youth program with some very fast up and coming young riders.
In the 1000cc Sidecar event, the club’s own Colin Blackbourn with passenger Carl Pugh led the final from start to finish, with Rod Winterburn/Liam Brown and Rob Bradley/Shaun Simpson from Wrangle, fighting for the second spot with Rod just getting it on the line.
Robbie Wilson just snatched the third place from Paul Whitelam.
After a year off with injury, the 2011 Club Champion Daniel Winterton was rider of the day with five unbeaten rides in the 500cc Solo class, with Gareth Hickmott second and John Smart third.
In the 350cc class, Manchester’s Andy Mellish took the honours from Edward Bales and
Andrew Whittaker took third place.
As ever, the 250cc Solo class produced some top class racing.
Former British Masters Champion David Knowles coming out the winner and Wragby’s Ricky Scarboro second and Micky Allen in third place.
In the Junior races, the Auto Cadet Class (6-8 year old) was won in impressive style by young Sam McGurk.
George Hopper took the Cadet Class from Mickie Simpson of Wrangle, Harry McGurk third.
In the junior (9-11 years), Milo Griggs took the win from William O’Keefe and Charlie Brooks.
Jack Thomas took the intermediate title with a maximum from Connor Locke and Lewis Griggs third.
The club’s next event is the David Nix Memorial meeting on 16th June.
